The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) is recruiting Voluntary Officers to launch and operate the Friends of Mauritian Wildlife Club.

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) is planning to launch a new club, the Friends of Mauritian Wildlife, whose aims are to instil interest in all aspects of wildlife and to sensitise the Mauritian public at large about environmental protection through various activities.

MWF is looking for 4 volunteers to fill in the posts of Club Administrative Officer, Club Secretary, Club Finance Officer and Club Event Officer. These officers will work in close coordination with MWF to run the Club. Candidates must have strong interests in nature conservation, sufficient free time, excellent organisational, oral and written communication skills, be capable to work with low supervision and be self-motivated to effectively run the Club and participate in the events. Candidates should also have their own means of transport.

Club Administrative Officer

To be responsible for the smooth administration and running of the Club and lead the team.

The Club Admin Officer will supervise all aspects of the Club and lead the Club management team. He /She will contribute to set the Club objectives and activities and organise him/herself in such a way as to ensure the smooth running of all activities and administration of the Club. The ideal candidate should have strong management skills and enough free time to manage a Club. The chosen candidate will be involved in the interview process to select the remaining members of the team.

Candidate’s profile

  • -Excellent leadership and organisational skills
  • -Excellent communication skills, written and verbal 
  • -Target-driven, proactive approach and an attention to details
  • -Have a pleasant personality
  • -Be capable to deal with people under pressure

Hours of work: Anticipated to be an average of 10 hours per week. The Club Admin Officer will preside over all Club meetings and events, as well as committee meetings and planning sessions.  A deputy chairperson will be appointed from the other officers to preside over meetings when the Admin Officer can’t be present. Tasks may be delegated to a sub-committee comprising of volunteer Club members. 

Club Secretary

To keep minutes of the club meetings, manage membership applications, renewals, attendance rosters of Club members and all relevant records.

He/she will also be responsible to effectively communicate with all Club members and promoting events when required. The ideal candidate should be outgoing and charismatic with excellent organisational, record keeping, written and verbal communication skills.

Candidate’s profile

  • -Experience in communications and public relations
  • -Excellent communication skills, written and verbal 
  • -Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data
  • -Comfortable with using social media platforms
  • -Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Hours of work:  Estimated to be an average of 10 hours per week. The Club Secretary will need to attend Club meetings and events, as well as committee meetings and planning sessions. The Secretary may nominate an Assistant Secretary recruited among Club members and delegate some of his/her tasks.

Club Finance Officer

To collect payments, follow up on membership fees, issue receipts, bank receipts, manage the financial side of fundraising events, keep accurate records.

The Club Finance Officer will also be expected to market and sell various items proposed by the Club. The ideal candidate should be trustworthy, reliable and outgoing, with experience of keeping accounts. 

Candidate’s profile

  • -Accounting background or similar
  • -Used to handle cash and book keeping
  • -Meticulous, and attentive to details
  • -Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • -Capable to sell and negotiate
  • -Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Hours of work: Estimated to be an average of 6 hours per week. The Club Finance Officer will need to attend Club meetings and events, as well as committee meetings and planning sessions. He/She may nominate an Assistant recruited among Club members and delegate some of his/her tasks.

Club Events Officer

To plan and orchestrate all Club meetings and events. 

He/she will be required to organise all events, including the management of equipment, materials and logistics. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, physically fit and self-motivated. 

Candidate’s profile

  • -Experience in communications and public relations
  • -Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • -Experience in Marketing will be an advantage
  • -Comfortable with using social media platforms
  • -Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Hours of work: Estimated to be an average of 10 hours per week. The Club Event Officer will need to attend Club meetings and events, as well as committee meetings and planning sessions. The Club Event Officer may recruit among Club members to have a team of helpers and delegate some of his/her tasks.
