Anou Protez Nou Bann Zil - Sensitisation workshop with Law enforcement officers

The Education Team of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation recently conducted a workshop for law enforcement officers, including members of the regular Police Force, the Police du Tourisme, and the National Coast Guard. Held on 16th October in the Church Hall of Saint Anges Gardiens parish in Grand Bay, the session brought together officers who play a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s natural heritage, particularly the delicate ecosystems of the northern islets.

Participants showed great interest in the restoration projects carried out by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation on several islets, and how these efforts have transformed degraded areas into thriving habitats for wildlife.

A representative of the National Coast Guards and a representative from the National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS) - who also attended the event - shared insights into the challenges encountered in protecting the islets’ ecosystems in the north. Their remarks highlighted the need for continued collaboration between conservation organisations and enforcement authorities to ensure the long-term protection of these unique environments.

The Anou Protez Nou Bann Zil programme was first launched in 2017 to raise awareness about the biodiversity of the South East islets. The project aims to train key islet users (skippers, fishermen, private boat owners, tourism operators and government officers) about the unique biodiversity on these islets and how they can help reduce or eliminate threats to them. Since July 2019, MWF has been able to extend its project to the Northern islets of Mauritius and reach new stakeholders including tour operators and hotels, with the unwavering support of the #MCBgroup and the authorities such as National Heritage Fund, Forestry Service and the National Parks and Conservation Service.
