MWF promoting awareness |
The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation is committed to education and promoting awareness as vital components of the conservation of biodiversity.
Although we participate in a wide range of education initiatives, our main focus is delivering the conservation message in Rodrigues and on Ile aux Aigrettes.

Environmental Education in Rodrigues
The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation has a well-established and successful education programme in Rodrigues, working closely with school children and local communities. This is in accordance with our belief that conservation must occur hand-in-hand with education in order to be successful, MWF has established a Rodrigues Environmental Education Programme (REEP).
Students in Standards V and VI receive regular lessons in environmental issues including Rodriguan endemic flora and fauna, water cycle and pollution, and plant cycle and conservation.

Talks are given in the villages |
Educational talks are also given in the villages. Field outings are organized to the Nursery and Nature Reserves to better sensitise the population on the importance of restoration work and the protection of the local biodiversity. Educational material including posters, stickers, bookmarks, and screensavers are produced and distributed throughout the island.
MWF also works with other stakeholders, including government and Non-Governmental Organisations, to coordinate island-wide awareness-raising projects. The Educator further coordinates the involvement of the community volunteers in the various conservation projects.

Environmental Education on Ile aux Aigrettes (Mauritius)
In 2009, the "Learning with Nature programme" on Ile aux Aigrettes was launched, which is specifically targeted at Form 2 students, both to introduce them to the conservation work being carried out in their country and at the same time support curriculum subjects that they study (for more details, please refer to 'Learning with Nature' page). The programme is also a valuable educational and awareness-raising tool for children of other ages who visit the island .
In addition, we visit schools and other institutions on request, to talk about environmental and conservation issues and are also collaborating with education authorities in Mauritius to make conservation information and resources available to science teachers.
